I also had to yield any plans I had to Him also as this prevented me from doing what I WANTED a lot of the time.  It’s easy to become bitter with a chronic illness.  If you  have planned and prepared for years something like vacations, or even looked forward to retirement, bad health can seem to rob you of much of life.  Joy is hard to find here without the Lord’s power, grace or mercy and we NEED HIS Joy to survive at times.

The Bitter Root of Loss

Have you lost someone you loved? Perhaps a job was taken away or a promotion was not given?  How about finances like savings, our home, again; the marriage and family you dreamed of?  There are many different kinds of lose and I will gently share with you that EVER PERSON ON THE PLANET or who has ever lived has suffered some type of loss in their life.  We have all been done wrong by someone as sin permeates humanity.

This isn’t to say “get over it”, that's not what I'm saying in the LEAST, but what I AM  saying is that everyone can sympathize in one way or another with your pain”…YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

I know that you must have heard the saying: “someone always has it worse”, and to an extent that is true, so while it can be comforting at times to know that worse things can happen, it should bring us appreciation and a thankful heart that things are NOT worse than they are. There are truly unspeakable horrors that have taken place against people since the beginning of time and so we know that “it can always be worse”.  That doesn’t always ease the pain though, does it?

Recognize some SIGNS
that bitterness may be taking root:

• Being Oversensitive to a verbal remark, action, or lack of action.

• Over reacts to situations

• Defensive behavior

• Hurt feelings.

• Crying too much or for no reason.

• anger or anxiety at the thought or sight of a person (or others)

• Reopening wounds and frequently talking about them (or others).

• Alienation of that person (or others)

• Verbal slander against the person (or others).

• Find it hard to pray for blessings towards the other person (or others)

• Becoming like the one you despise (doing the very behavior that hurt you)

• Being very touchy, agitated or sullen without understanding why maybe.

• Can be ungrateful for blessings

• Give empty flattery and harsh criticism.

• Holds grudges

• Finds it difficult to forgive or becomes tight lipped at the very

           thought of forgiving..

• Display stubbornness or a sulky attitude.

• Won’t reach out to others or help anyone (not seeing the needs of others

(or complains sometimes when asked for help).

• Experiences mood extremes—highs and lows.

• Dive into “escapes” like overeating, drinking, or other

                possibly addictive behavior

• Rarely wants to join in on joyous occasions or activities

• Lack of self control

• Lack of obedience (ref Mt 5:44,45)

There is only ONE TRUE SOURCE of Healing!

There is only one true healing source, only one person who truly understands your pain and who has the power to lift that off of you! The Lord Jesus can heal you if you ask.  You don't have to fix things or strive, worry or feel so badly that your insides wants to crumble.  He can carry that for you!  I'm not talking metaphysically but supernaturally so!  The same power that raises man from the dead, that holds back the seas, that “sustains all things through the power of His word” (Hebrews 1:3), I'm talking about true POWER.

For the Kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.  (1 Corinthians 4:20)

If you cannot identify WHY you feel bitter, resentment or anger, ask the Lord Jesus where the door was opened.  Some people really do not know why…or, when they DO resolve something weighing on their heart, they may start to feel anxious all over again, in which case, we have to go once again to the Lord to ask Him the cause of this anxiety.  Some pain deeply buried may take a while to go through with Him as layers of pain and hurt and memories are what one may react out of.

The Nastiest 4-Letter word

Fear also can bring forth old “junk” and well….we know fear is not of the Lord and we can ask the Lord Jesus to point out what we’re afraid of and then bring THAT to Him as well. Fear is NOT OF GOD.

For God didn't give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control. (2 Timothy 1:7)

IF you feel that fear is rising up, call the blood of Christ Jesus over that and rebuke that.  Then claim the love of Christ, HIS truth and love and wisdom into your situation.  Remember that He has given you the KEYS OF THE KINGDOM:

“I will give to you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will have been bound in heaven; and whatever you release on earth will have been released in heaven."  (Matthew 16:19)

Clean out the “Blockers to Healing”

God can help you to cleanse your memory, instead of remembering with malice and hurt, He will work with you to clean out your heart from all pain so that it can truly love the way our Father God designed you to do, being made in His image and as we know full well: GOD IS LOVE.  Deal with fear the same way you would any other sin and that is to follow the steps to Resolve Bitterness, then write down the handy 2 Minute Quick Cleanse so that you can pull it out at a moment’s notice when you start to feel upset or angry about anything.  Identifying other hurts / feelings and resolving them with the steps at the bottom of our “Pain Words” is also a useful exercise at “cleaning house” in your heart.  You may want to check out some other hindrances to Healing after you’re done, to see if there is anything else holding you back from receiving all the blessings in Healing, joy, comfort and peace that is available to you through the Lord’s hand and His promises.

The Bitter Root of Rejection

Has someone rejected you? Are you bitter about it? Perhaps a mate has rejected you for someone else or a close friend rejected you?  Has a former boss rejected you and fired you? This can be hurtful and the More you abide in Christ Jesus, the more you will see who you are in Him and what others say or will have no affect on you.

The Bitter Root of Unfulfilled Dreams

We have all had dreams that have never came true. Some things in life just naturally dash our dreams like divorce, separation or the sin of others  create many types of loss.  It may have been the plans you had for your children or the idea of what a ‘happy family’ looks like that is now changed. Perhaps you are hurt because the dreams you always looked forward to look like they are never going to come true?  Maybe you have the dream of meeting “Mr Right” before now or maybe it’s that career or job that didn’t quite work out.

The Bitter Root of Poor Health

Are you bitter because your health has failed you? I know this one full well, having suffered back pain from a curving spine since childhood.   I had to go to the throne often as this hindered much in my life, from jobs and work to activities people my age participated in.  I had to stay at the throne to see Father God’s image of who I was as I struggled to not feel “broken”.
